Timothy Charles-Richard Risk
Risk’s paintings captivate on first site and draw the viewer into the artist’s vibrant and extraordinary world of color and imagery. Risk paints from dreamlike imagination and from the brilliance of his own interpretation of symbols and everyday surroundings. His collection of "flag and star" paintings exhibits his use of American patriotism and modernity while his series of bold flowers evokes a sense of romance, deep emotion and sensual desire. Vastly different, both works show a strong influence of inspiration and energy.
There is a clear understanding when one views the artist’s vast range of works from more modern mosaic-paintings that emerged at the birth of his son to the more impressionistic paintings of his fields and flowers that Risk has not limited his expression to any one form and has opened himself up to his own creative flow. He says, "Painting is exhilarating to me. I am overtaken by the anticipation of creating. It is so fulfilling to me to finish a painting and take a step back and see all that went into it. There is a story being told there and capturing that story is what I want to do." Recent work has shown his talent for a unique style of painting that is unconventional in technique. Self-taught, Risk uses acrylics on his signature hand-hewn wood canvases. Most works are framed by the artist’s own hand made frames of antique lumber.
The artist draws from his deep personal experience of starting a family and his responsibilities as an American man, artist, father, and husband. Thus, we are fascinated as Risk lets us take a journey through his own inner personal struggle to define his emotions and feelings that are captured in his paintings. "When my son was born, I had the ultimate desire to paint. I had to put down what words could not describe. I have painted ever since and draw largely on the daily experiences I have as man and the love I have for my family."
